Carbon Exchange Network

Site under construction. Completion anticipated 28 November.

Until science has provided the means to eliminate the use of coal, gas and oil for powering industry, homes and transportation, we are required to make whatever efforts are necessary to minimise the effect of our carbon emissions on the atmosphere.

Carbon Offsetting is a process devised to compensate for those greenhouse gas emissions which cannot at present be avoided. While efforts are being made to reduce these emissions at source from industry, homes and transport it is also possible to encourage new initiatives which will speed up the process. Alternative means of generating power, more efficient industrial processes, recycling of materials, planting of trees, reducing methane emissions from landfill sites are a few of such initiatives.

However, these have to be paid for and carbon offsetting, where companies are obliged to pay for excess emissions, is the principal means of raising funding. However, at present, this does not raise sufficient funding to pay for all the possible means of reducing emissions. By raising the funding we can allow projects to go ahead.

If you are interested in contributing to this effort, you can calculate your emissions and compensate for them. For example, a car travelling 12,000 miles a year will typically generate about 3.5 Tonnes of carbon.
For this example, the cost would be £10.50.
